Vol. 451 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Pat Upton

Question:

58 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has to maintain welfare benefits, pensions and allowances in accordance with increases in the consumer price index in future budgets; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6672/95]

In general, the policy followed at budget time has been one of ensuring that the real income position of those on social welfare, at the minimum, is maintained and improved where possible. The Government has no plans to depart from this general approach in future budgets.
