Vol. 452 No. 1

Written Answers. - Third Level Fees.

Michael Creed

Question:

51 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has regarding mature students and their fees for third level education. [7456/95]

My recent decision on the abolition of fees relates to fees paid by full-time undergraduate students, including mature students, attending publicly funded third level institutions in the Republic of Ireland.

John Ellis

Question:

52 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Education the reason she proposes to exclude theology students at Saint Patrick's College, Maynooth, from the free fees scheme. [7748/95]

The students in question, who are in fact pursuing the full-time BA in theology in the Pontifical University, are at present eligible and will continue to be eligible for higher education grants for fees and maintenance.

Representations have been made to me about the eligibility of such students to avail of the initiative to abolish fees. I am considering these representations at present and will convey my decision in due course.
