Vol. 452 No. 2

Written Answers. - Lower Liffey Sewerage Scheme.

Kathleen Lynch

Question:

50 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the leakage of raw sewage into the Liffey due to the lack of upgrading of Celbridge pumping station; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that excess amounts of chlorine regularly have to be added at the water treatment plant in order to make the supply of drinking water potable; the proposals, if any, he has to rectify the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7769/95]

The lower Liffey sewerage scheme includes proposals to reduce waste water volumes entering the network and to upgrade storm overflows. The scheme has been included in the River Liffey catchment plan, an application for which has been submitted to the European Commission for assistance from the Cohesion Fund.

The maintenance of drinking water quality on an operational basis is a matter for the local authority concerned.
