Vol. 452 No. 2

Written Answers. - EU Funding.

Martin Cullen

Question:

51 Mr. Cullen asked the Minister for the Environment if he has satisfied himself that the mechanism for providing matching funds for the drawing down of funds under the Community Support Framework by local authorities is adequate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6953/95]

Local authorities are involved with a range of programmes which qualify for EU assistance. The Exchequer provides 100 per cent grants for co-financed expenditure on roads and water and sewerage services; between them, these two programmes account for over 90 per cent of total local authority expenditure eligible for co-financing.

The Exchequer is to provide a proportion, normally a minimum of 50 per cent of expenditure eligible for co-financing under the local authority urban renewal and waste management programmes. The balance of the eligible expenditure can be provided from the local authorities' own resources and, in the case of urban renewal projects, through private or other public sources as well.
