Vol. 452 No. 7

Written Answers. - Attempted Kidnappings.

David Andrews

Question:

22 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for Justice the steps, if any she has taken to prevent recurrences of recent attempted kidnappings. [8413/95]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that arrangements and procedures have been put in place to minimise the incidence of kidnappings. While I cannot, for security reasons, go into these procedures in any detail, I can state that the Garda advise and assist, on a confidential basis, persons regarded by them as potential subjects of kidnapping.

In addition, Garda crime prevention officers are always available to advise concerned members of the public as to the steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of kidnap. The availability of such advice and assistance will be highlighted in a forthcoming "Crimeline" programme on RTE.
