71 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to monitor the movements of convicted sex offenders following their release from prison in order to ensure that they do not attempt to make contact with their victims. [8537/95]
I should say, first, that I have no power to impose conditions on any offender once the sentence imposed by the Court is completed. However, I share the concern of many about the absence of even basic restrictions on sex offenders on release and I am examining a number of possibilities that would facilitate such restrictions being imposed lawfully. When my examination is completed I will make a further statement on the matter.
