Vol. 453 No. 4

Written Answers. - Investment in Semi-State Companies.

Michael McDowell

Question:

116 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the total amount of money, if any, his Department proposes to lend or to invest in semi-State companies for capital purposes in 1995; if he will list each proposed investment or loan; and if he will make a statement on the rate of return anticipated for each such loan or investment. [9428/95]

Shannon Development has been allocated £200,000 for capital purposes in 1995. These funds will be used by Shannon to upgrade and develop a number of tourist facilities in the Shannon region. Most of the money will be spent on improving Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. A number of smaller infrastructural projects will also be improved, for example, additional services at the Cliffs of Moher will be provided.

Shannon Development allocates these funds to tourist facilities which it considers will have the greatest return both in terms of tourist numbers and revenue for the region.
