Vol. 454 No. 1

Written Answers. - Advisers and Programme Managers.

Bertie Ahern

Question:

169 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for the Marine the number and cost of special political advisers and programme managers from outside the permanent public service appointed at his Department. [10246/95]

I have not yet formally appointed my programme manager or special adviser. However, I have designated a programme manager and special adviser pending finalisation of a contract of employment in each case. In the interim, the programme manager has been placed on a basic salary of £35,400 per annum while the special adviser is on a basic salary of £8,813. These costs will be shared by the Marine and Defence Votes in recognition of my dual role.

In addition, a special adviser has been appointed to the Minister of State at the Department of the Marine, Deputy Gilmore. He is being paid an annual salary of £33,442 plus an allowance of 12 per cent in lieu of superannuation. In addition, he is entitled to the reimbursement of travelling and subsistence expenses for official business at appropriate Civil Service rates.
