Vol. 454 No. 4

Written Answers. - Funding for Voluntary Organisation.

Tony Gregory

Question:

147 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Social Welfare the grant assistance sought by the Markets Area Combined Residents Organisation from his Department; his response to its requests; and if he can assist this organisation with interim funding to allow it lease a premises for community development purposes. [11045/95]

Under the scheme of grants for voluntary organisations, once-off grants may be made to help voluntary and community groups working with disadvantaged groups or in disadvantaged areas. The number of applications received to date under the grants scheme is in the region of 1,000 and these are being processed at the regional offices at present.

An application for grant assistance of £47,500, from the Markets Area Combined Residents Organisation has been received by my Department. As the Deputy will appreciate it will take some time to process all the applications. My Department will be in touch with the Markets Area Combined Residents Organisation as soon as possible to let it know the outcome of its application.
There is no provision under the scheme of grants for voluntary organisations for the making of interim payments to voluntary organisations pending the approval of their applications.
