Vol. 454 No. 7

Written Answers. - Radiological Protection Institute.

Ivor Callely

Question:

89 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications his views on whether the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland has adequate resources to carry out all its functions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11545/95]

The Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland is financed by grant-in-aid from the Exchequer and by income from the provision of radiological protection services and from research contracts. The grant-in-aid to the Institute in 1995 amounts to £1.1 million which includes a capital allocation of £150,000. The institute was also grant-aided an amount of £115,000 towards the radiological emergency plan. The amount grant-aided to the institute this year is identical to the level of funding requested by them.

The level of funding required by the institute to carry out its functions is examined each year in the context of the Department's expenses.
