96 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for the Environment the Government's position on the export of waste from developed to less developed countries; the outcome of the recent Basel convention meeting; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13519/95]
A proposal to amend the Basel Convention to apply a complete ban on the export of hazardous waste from OECD to non OECD countries was addressed at the Third Conference of the Parties to the Convention which was held in Geneva from 18 to 22 September 1995. The European Union and its members states, including Ireland, adopted a common position in favour of that amendment which was approved by the Conference.
