Vol. 456 No. 1

Written Answers. - Port Access Route.

Ivor Callely

Question:

115 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment when he expects work to commence on the port access route; the time schedule for completion; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12627/95]

On 1 March 1995, I made an order classifying the proposed Northern Port Access route as a national primary road, thereby placing its construction under the overall responsibility of the National Roads Authority. It is now the statutory function of the Authority to proceed as quickly as possible with the preparatory work on the project, in cooperation with Dublin Corporation. Consultants have been appointed to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement and a Motorway Order, and to supervise the design and construction. The construction timetable for the project will be a matter for the Authority once the necessary statutory procedures have been completed.
