Vol. 456 No. 2

Written Answers. - Youthreach Cutbacks.

Mary Harney

Question:

32 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Education the criteria used in deciding on cutbacks in the youthreach scheme of second chance education; and if she will guarantee that there will be no further cutbacks in the scheme. [13489/95]

There are no cutbacks on youthreach and I am fully committed to supporting this important programme for unqualified early school leavers. I have provided 400 extra places on the programme in the education sector in 1994, and this will be followed by a further allocation of 450 new places this year. This was announced in a press release of 20 September 1995. The arrangements for the expansion are currently in train.
