Vol. 456 No. 2

Written Answers. - Heritage Council Headquarters.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

51 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he will confirm that the headquarters of the new Heritage Council will be located in Kilkenny; the total estimated cost, including capital, of the move; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13651/95]

As the Deputy will be aware, I indicated in a statement issued on 10 July 1995, on the occasion of the establishment of the Heritage Council as an autonomous statutory body, that it is intended that the council will have its headquarters in Kilkenny.

I am advised that the Heritage Council has made preliminary inquiries in this matter and has as yet been unable to locate a premises of adequate size and suitability in Kilkenny. It is not possible, therefore, to estimate at this time with any accuracy the overall cost, including capital, of the relocation of the council's headquarters. For the moment, the council will continue to be based at its interim headquarters at 4-5 Harbourt Road, Dublin 2.
