Question:

79 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the proposals, if any, she has to enhance and improve educational services and facilities in the areas of Dublin 3, 5 and 9 over the next 18 months; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13669/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 76 and 79 together.

The White Paper on Education, Charting our Education Future, sets out a framework for the development of education. It outlines policy direction and targets for future development. I believe that the policies outlined in the White Paper will benefit significantly all the partners in education including teachers.

I wish to draw the Deputy's attention to significant improvements in the education system over the last few years in the area of pupil-teacher ratios, incareer development, curricular reform and special intervention for the disadvantaged, all of which are of benefit and support to teachers. Improvements will continue to be made as resources permit.

Capital investment towards providing new and improved school accommodation will continue to be a major priority of my Department. Primary and post-primary schools and teachers in the Dublin areas referred to by the Deputy will benefit as appropriate from the developments which I have outlined above.
