Vol. 458 No. 2

Written Answers. - Medical Treatment for Prisoner.

Willie O'Dea

Question:

130 Mr. O'Dea asked the Minister for Justice if she will ensure that a person (details supplied) in Limerick Prison who needs urgent medical treatment will be given such treatment without delay before his condition deteriorates further; and if she will also ensure that he will get the appropriate aftercare treatment in prison when his medical treatment has been completed. [16843/95]

The offender concerned has received in-patient treatment in hospital for his condition. He continues to receive appropriate medical attention within the prison and a further hospital appointment has been sought in view of his ongoing problem. The availability of such an appointment is a matter for the hospital authorities but the prison authorities are pursuing this issue. The Deputy can be assured that he is receiving and will continue to receive the appropriate medical care as long as he remains in prison.
