Vol. 458 No. 8

Written Answers. - Army Waste Disposal.

Eoin Ryan

Question:

187 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence the recycling schemes, if any, undertaken at Army Barracks throughout the country; and if there are no schemes, if he intends to start any such schemes. [17803/95]

The military authorities have a general policy in regard to waste disposal, of endeavouring where practicable to recover materials which may be recycled and of co-operation by Barrack Commanders with local agencies in the matter. A glass re-cycling scheme is in operation at a number of locations throughout the country and extension of the arrangements to other barracks and to include other materials such as paper, plastics and metal cans, is under consideration.

Periodically, arrangements are made by tender competition for the disposal of materials such as scrap metals, waste oil, etc.
