, Limerick East): My Department does not recruit child care staff. The term Child Care Worker in the health board sector covers the grades of House Parent, Assistant House Parent and Trainee House Parent. The educational criteria for these grades are set out below.

Candidates for House Parent posts must hold a recognised qualification in Child Care: National Diploma in Child Care awarded by the National Council for Educational Awards — NCEA; or National Diploma in Applied Social Studies in Social Care (with appropriate practice placements) — NCEA; or Diploma in Child Care/Social Care awarded by the Dublin Institute of Technology

— Dublin Institute of Technology; or Diploma in Applied Social Studies-Social Care (with appropriate practice placements) — Dublin Institute of Technology; or any equivalent qualification.

Candidates for trainee house parent and assistant house parent posts must have attained leaving certificate standard (Grade D or better in five or more subjects at higher or ordinary level).

Assistant house parents should not proceed beyond the sixth increment on the relevant salary scale unless they possess a recognised/acceptable qualification in child care.
Holders of NCVA qualifications are eligible to apply for trainee and assistant house parent posts.
