Written Answers. - Millennium Celebrations.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

216 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the plans, if any, the Government has at this stage to mark the end of the current millennium and the commencement of the new millennium; and if it is envisaged that any bodies will be established in the near future with a view to planning this event. [1487/96]

I refer to the Deputy to my replies of 2 March 1995 to Questions Nos. 40 and 64 (Official Report Vol., 450, No. 1, Columns 145-146) and of 28 November 1995 to Question 101 (Official Report Vol. 458, No. 8, Columns 1673-1674).

The Taoiseach has invited me to consider what initiatives might be appropriate and to make a presentation to Government in due course.
