Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water Supply.

John Ellis

Question:

236 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to upgrade the water supply for Sligo town in view of the fact that lack of supply will hinder economic development in the town and surrounding areas; and the timescale involved. [19214/95]

The Sligo and environs water supply scheme has been advanced to the stage where contract documents are now being technically examined in my Department. However, financial approval to the scheme must await the outcome of the application for Cohesion Fund assistance for the Lough Gill regional water supply scheme, which included the Sligo and environs water supply scheme. My Department has emphasised to the Commission the urgency of this and other environmental project applications awaiting approval.
