Question:

252 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to grant-aid the final stages of improvement works at Donore Road, Drogheda, County Louth; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that this road will be one of the main link roads to the proposed new carriageway; the funding he intends to provide; when sanction will be given; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19381/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 251 and 252 together.

Drogheda Corporation received grant payments of £100,000 in 1994 and £178,600 in 1995 for the Donore Road project under the EU co-financed scheme of specific improvement grants. The corporation has applied for a grant of £122,000 under the scheme this year to complete the works.

I am currently examining applications from local authorities generally under this grant scheme and finalising details of the 1996 road grant allocations for non-national roads generally. I expect to be in a position to announce the allocations to individual local authorities within a matter of weeks.
