Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Retention of Teacher at Dublin School.

Micheál Martin

Question:

345 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education if the 13th teacher at St. Pius X girls' national school (details supplied), Fortfield Park, Dublin 6W, will be retained in accordance with the sanction previously given by her Department. [1057/96]

The 13th assistant's post at St. Pius X girls' national school has been suppressed. The teacher in question has been redeployed to another school. The post was provisionally sanctioned for the school in the summer of 1995 because the managerial authorities of the school indicated that the enrolment was set to increase from 387 in September 1994 to 424 pupils in September 1995. An increase of this magnitude would have qualified the school for developing school status, thus warranting the provisional appointment of an extra assistant. Unfortunately, the enrolment of the school increased by only three pupils to 390. In the circumstances, there was no basis for the continuation of the 13th assistant's post at the school.
