Vol. 460 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Suspension of Teacher.

Pat Upton

Question:

63 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education the number of teachers at both primary and second-level who were suspended or dismissed for each of the years from 1990 to 1995. [1494/96]

The suspension of teachers is a matter for each individual school's board of management. The matter of dismissing teachers is proper to each school's board of management and patron.

Based on information extracted from records within my Department, the number of primary and post-primary teachers dismissed, and the number of post-primary teachers suspended, in each of the years requested by the Deputy, is set out in the following table. The number of primary teachers suspended by boards of management in that period is not readily available.
