Written Answers. - Use of Paris Convention.

Eoin Ryan

Question:

139 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he has used the Paris Convention to request arbitration between Ireland and the United Kingdom regarding the THORP facility. [3276/96]

The committee of Ministers on Sellafield and the Irish Sea has asked the Attorney General to examine the possibility of using the provisions under the Paris Convention for the Prevention of Marine Pollution from Land Based Sources for the purpose of arbitration in relation to Sellafield and THORP operations. There are ongoing inquiries in this regard and the position is being kept under constant review.
