Vol. 462 No. 1

Written Answers. - Westport (Mayo) Sewerage Scheme.

Michael Ring

Question:

76 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment the costs involved for the planned site and the alternative site for the Westport sewerage scheme, County Mayo; and the person who carried out the costing on this scheme. [4081/96]

The site proposed by the local authority for a sewage treatment plant for Westport was selected on the basis of the considerations set out in the relevant environmental impact statement of 1993, principally those of suitable physical location and elevation. As the issue of relative costs of different sites is likely to be addressed in the context of a proposed compulsory purchase order which has been submitted to me for determination, it would be inappropriate for me to comment on this aspect at this stage.
