Question:

162 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the dangerous condition of the floor in the metalwork room at Ramsgrange community school, County Wexford, as a result of unfinished works relating to the extension of the room; the proposals, if any, she has to correct the situation; when these works will be carried out; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4434/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 161 and 162 together.

Documentation in relation to the condition of the floor of the metalwork room at Ramsgrange community school has been submitted to my Department. This documentation is being examined at present by technical staff of the building unit. My Department will be in contact with the board of management of the school on completion of the aforementioned examination.

In relation to further improvement works at the gymnasium, the position is that due to the demands on the capital resources available, priority has to be given to the provision of essential teaching accommodation. As a result, it is not possible to make funding available at this stage to proceed with improvement works at the gymnasium. It is hoped that these works will be proceeded with as soon as financial provisions allow.
