Vol. 462 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Kerry Television Reception.

John O'Leary

Question:

108 Mr. O'Leary asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he will have arrangements made for RTE to improve the quality of television reception in the Glenflesk/Headford area of County Kerry as a matter of urgency in view of the fact that the proposed transmitter will serve a very large area and a large number of householders. [4165/96]

The issue raised by the Deputy is the day-to-day responsibility of the RTE Authority and I have no statutory function in the matter.

In accordance with longstanding custom, however, I am prepared to furnish to the House information supplied by RTÉ in response to questions relating specifically to improvements in reception of the national broadcasting services. In this regard, RTÉ has advised that the Glenflesk Headford area of County Kerry has been surveyed and a site suitable for a new low power transmitter selected. RTÉ hopes that the new transmitter will be "on air" towards the end of this year.
