Vol. 462 No. 3

Written Answers. - Employment Increases.

Mary Harney

Question:

13 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the increases in respect of both part-time and full-time employment in the labour force survey for the year ended March 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4471/96]

I understand from the Central Statistics Office that a breakdown, between full-time and part-time employment, of the total increase of 49,000 in the number of persons at work at mid-April 1995 will not be available until April of this year.

A breakdown of the total increase in employment which occurred in the previous year indicates that the increase in the number of persons in full-time employment, in that year, was over 26,000, in comparison to an increase of 10,000 in part-time employment. These figures suggest that growth in overall employment is now being driven, in the main, by increases in full-time employment rather than part-time employment.
