Vol. 462 No. 7

Written Answers. - Donegal Schools Amalgamation.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

96 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education whether agreement has been reached with the boards of management of Aphort-Leabgarrow national schools, Aranmore, County Donegal to allow an amalgamation of both schools; and if she will confirm her recent announcement that funding has been provided in 1996 for this project. [5384/96]

To date, agreement has not been reached with the boards of management of Aphort and Leabgarrow national schools to amalgamate. The proposed amalgamation has been deferred for the present and will be given further consideration at a later stage.

I announced recently that a major refurbishment programme has been approved at Leabgarrow school. My announcement also said that my Department would be in touch with the school authorities about advancing the project through the various planning stages and that when this process is completed, a decision on the tender and contract process would be taken in the light of other priority projects and available financial resources.
