Vol. 463 No. 5

Written Answers. - Peace Programme Funding.

James Leonard

Question:

55 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Education the discussions, if any, she has had with the administrators of EU special support programme for peace and reconciliation 1995-1999 sub-programme measure 1-6 regarding qualification for funding for outdoor education centres. [4122/96]

I have not had any discussions on the matter raised by the Deputy.

The strategic aim of the EU funded Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation, 1995-99 is: to reinforce progress towards a peaceful and stable society and to promote reconciliation by increasing economic development and employment, promoting urban and rural regeneration, developing cross-Border co-operation and extending social inclusion.
The implementation mechanisms being utilised are those which are considered most appropriate to the range of actions envisaged for the programme and the local circumstances within the eligible areas.
It is a matter for individual organisations to submit their applications for funding for specific projects or range of projects to the management structure designated for the relevant measures within the various sub-programmes. The determination of eligibility of any particular project is not a matter specifically for the Minister for Education.
