Dermot Ahern

Question:

61 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the level of remuneration of the non-executive directors of boards, companies or agencies under the aegis of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6507/96]

The current annual levels of remuneration of the non-executive directors of boards, companies or agencies under the aegis of my Department are as follows. Five of six non-executive board members of ACC Bank plc receive remuneration of £4,000 per annum. The sixth, a civil servant, receives no remuneration in his capacity as a board member. Eight of the ten directors of the Central Bank receive remuneration of £5,000 per annum. Neither of the others, one of whom is a civil servant and the other the Governor, receives any remuneration in their capacities as board members. There are no non-executive members of the Economic and Social Research Institute. No payments are made by the institute to (non-staff) members of the ESRI Council or Executive Committee for their service. Six of the eight non-executive directors of ICC Bank plc receive remuneration of £4,000 per annum. One, a civil servant, receives no remuneration and the chairman receives remuneration of £6,000 per annum. Members of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Public Administration comprise staff of the IPA, and outside members, including public servants and trade union officials, none of whom are paid any remuneration for such membership. Six non-executive directors of the national lottery receive remuneration of £4,000 per annum. A further two directors do not receive any remuneration in their capacity as board members, since they hold board or executive positions within An Post. There are no non-executive directors in the National Treasury Management Agency. There is an advisory committee, the chairman of which receives £10,000 per annum and five of the six members each receive £5,000 per annum. The remaining member, a civil servant, receives no remuneration.
