Vol. 465 No. 2

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged School Status.

Seán Haughey

Question:

113 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education the reason disadvantaged status has not been conferred on St. John of God secondary school, Kilmore Road, Artane, Dublin 5, in view of the fact that all but one of its feeder primary schools have this status and the voluntary secondary schools who take pupils from the same area also have this status; if she will favourably consider a future application from this school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9359/96]

Posts were allocated to second level schools under the disadvantaged scheme on the basis of criteria agreed between representatives of management, teacher unions, parents and my Department. Schools were ranked in order of merit in accordance with the agreed criteria and the posts were allocated accordingly. The ranking of this school was not sufficiently high to warrant the allocation of a post. The needs of the school will be considered in the context of any further expansion of the disadvantaged scheme which is undertaken.
