Vol. 465 No. 2

Written Answers. - Use of Mobile 'Phones.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

120 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Education the procedures in place within her Department for monitoring the use of mobile phones by unestablished staff for purposes which are personal to the authorised user; the plans, if any, she has for improvements in this respect; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9393/96]

Certain unestablished staff in my Department are supplied with mobile phones for use in connection with their official duties. The current position is that bills for rental and call charges are certified by permanent civil servants attached to my own office and the offices of my Ministers of State before payment is made. Arrangements are currently being made for an itemised list of calls to be furnished to each mobile phone holder on a monthly basis. Mobile phone holders will be required to certify all calls and to reimburse to my Department the cost of any personal calls.
