Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - New Community College.

John O'Donoghue

Question:

167 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the construction of a community college at Caherciveen, County Kerry; whether her Department is now prepared to approve stage three of the project; the reason funding for the project was not included in the 1996 Estimates for her Department; whether she will ensure that funding for the project will be included in the 1997 Estimates for her Department; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9670/96]

The architectural planning for the proposed new community college at Cahirciveen is proceeding and the planning and building unit of my Department is at present examining the stage three submission, the developed sketch scheme. When the scheme has been found to be satisfactory the project will proceed to the next stage of planning, which is the detail design.

As the project was at an early stage of planning, it was not included in the 1996 Estimates and hence the question of allocating funds did not arise. The project will be considered for inclusion in the 1997 capital programme in the light of the available capital resources and the Department's other commitments and priorities.
