Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - Research on Educational Matters.

Ivor Callely

Question:

170 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the total number of committees which are undertaking research regarding some aspect on the provision of education services; the brief of each committee; the reports, if any, each committee has made; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9704/96]

Research on educational matters is conducted by the educational research centre, which is located at St. Patrick's College of Education and Institiúid Teangeolaíochta Éireann. The departments of education in the universities also conduct research which include various aspects of the provision of education services. The Economic and Social Research Institute carries out research on the socio-economic aspects of education. All these agencies publish reports of their research findings.

In addition, the research and development committee of my Department administers a fund for small scale research projects in the education area.
