Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - Irish Language Summer Colleges.

Ivor Callely

Question:

174 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the total number of scholarships available to students to participate in Irish language summer colleges; if she will give details of these scholarships; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9708/96]

There are no scholarships awarded by this Department for students to participate in Irish language summer colleges.

My Department operates a scheme under which capitation grants are paid towards tuition costs to colleges which organise Irish language courses. These grants are paid directly to the college authorities and are a means of offsetting the cost of such courses to parents.
