Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - Irish Emigrants' Emergency Fund.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

84 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if his attention has been drawn to the existence of the Irish Emigrants' Emergency Fund which is designed to assist the families of emigrants who are killed abroad in matters such as returning the remains to Ireland for burial and for other support; if he will endeavour to have some funds dedicated to this group in order to assist them in their excellent work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9518/96]

I am not aware of the existence of this fund.

The Interdepartmental Committee on Emigration, chaired by my Department, co-ordinates the activities of and circulation of information relating to emigration and the welfare of our emigrants between relevant Departments and agencies. If the Deputy sends me information about the Irish Emigrants' Emergency Fund I will ensure that it is brought to the attention of Departments and agencies represented on the committee.
