Vol. 465 No. 6

Written Answers. - Death Certificate Issue.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

115 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Health if he will have arrangements made for the issue of a death certificate in respect of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11. [10183/96]

Limerick East): The administration of the system of the registration of deaths is a matter for An tArd-Chláraitheoir (Registrar-General) of births and deaths and for local Registrars who operate under his general direction.

I am informed by An tArd-Chláraitheoir that the death, to which the Deputy referred, occurred on 13 March 1996. This death has not as yet been registered. The circumstances of the death necessitated that a post-mortem be carried out by the State Pathologist and also that an inquest be held. I am advised that the Coroner for the City of Dublin intends holding an inquest in the near future, as soon as the necessary investigations into the circumstances of the death have been completed. The coroner should then be in a position to issue his certificate to the Register of Births and Deaths so that the death may be registered.
