Vol. 465 No. 8

Written Answers. - Raheny (Dublin) Hospice Fund.

Ivor Callely

Question:

62 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the total amount of moneys given to St. Francis Hospice in respect of its service at Station Road, Raheny, Dublin 5; the additional funding, if any, that will be made available to this hospice in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10640/96]

Limerick East): In 1995 an in-patient palliative care facility was opened at St. Francis Hospice, Raheny. A sum of £300,000 was allocated by the Department of Health to cover the revenue costs associated with the first phase of commissioning. In the current year I am pleased to say that I have allocated a sum of £950,000 to cover the full year costs associated with the provision of the new in-patient facility. This funding is being channelled through the Eastern Health Board who have responsibility for ensuring that the service provided by St. Francis Hospice is delivered in an integrated manner, reflecting the needs of the local catchment area.

In the years 1991 to 1994 St. Francis Hospice received lottery funding from the Department for the provision of a home care service. The amounts received were as follows: 1991, £50,000; 1992, £75,000; 1993, £75,000; 1994, £75,000.
