Vol. 466 No. 1

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Scheme Review.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

113 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for the Environment when the review of the urban renewal scheme will be completed; whether an urban renewal scheme will be obtained in respect of Ballyshannon. County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10815/96]

The overall review of the urban renewal scheme will be completed in advance of the expiration of the current round of designations in July 1997. The consultants' study on the impact, effectiveness and cost of the schemes to date, which constitutes a major part of the review, should be concluded this summer.

It is not intended that the current scheme will be extended to any additional towns or areas. It would be inappropriate to consider what new areas, if any, might be suitable for designation as part of any future scheme until general policy in relation to the next phase of urban renewal is determined in the light of the review.
