Vol. 466 No. 1

Written Answers. - Redundancty Payments.

Micheál Martin

Question:

149 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education her views on whether part-time teachers who work more than an eight and 11 hour threshold are entitled to a redundancy payment when leaving their employment; and the provisions, if any, she has made in the 1996 Estimates to provide for redundancy payments. [10924/96]

Part-time teachers are prima facie entitled to payments under the redundancy payments Acts.

Whether the Acts apply in a particular case will depend upon the precise circumstances of that case and in particular the number of hours worked and the continuity of employment.
I am satisfied that the 1996 Estimates provisions are adequate to meet any contingencies under this heading.
