Vol. 466 No. 1

Written Answers. - Semi-State Companies' Performance.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

234 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications whether he received the Benchmark performance indicators which the Government required semi-State companies to produce and include in their annual reports; and if he will release this information as required by the Government's adoption of the Moriarty report. [10919/96]

The Government decision referred to in the Deputy's question states quite specifically that price competitiveness and performance benchmarks should be established as part of the corporate planning process of each State enterprise that has a dominant or monopoly position in the Irish market. The decision does not state that such benchmarks should be included in the annual reports of the State companies.

I am satisfied that the companies under my Department's aegis have given the matter of bench-marking the attention and priority that it deserves within the corporate planning process. The corporate plans of the State companies are not normally published, mainly because of the commercial sensitivity of much of the information in such plans.
