Vol. 466 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Lottery Spending.

Kathleen Lynch

Question:

75 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Finance the amount spent by the national lottery on advertising the proposed visit of an American warship to Ireland in July 1996. [11102/96]

While the national lottery company operates under licence from the Minister for Finance and his approval is required for games offered by the company and for the company's annual budget, the Deputy will appreciate that I do not have a day to day function in relation to company's financial operations.

It would be a matter for the board and management of the company to decide how much to spend on individual advertising and marketing campaigns in the light of prevailing conditions in the market. I trust the Deputy will understand that, in line with general commercial practice, it would not be appropriate to disclose the financial sums involved.
