144 Mr. Browne (Wexford) asked the Minister for Health the current position in relation to the development by the South-Eastern Health Board of Ely House Nursing Home, County Wexford as a centre for elderly people; when this facility will become available to the needs of the elderly people living in County Wexford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Limerick East): One of the priorities in the South-Eastern Health Board region has been the provision of more local facilities for the elderly of South Wexford. The purchase of Ely House by the South-Eastern Health Board was finalised in April 1996. In order to convert Ely House from a general hospital to an elderly care unit, it will be necessary to transfer acute services to Wexford General Hospital. The South-Eastern Health Board is at present formulating proposals with a view to the transfer of acute services from Ely House to Wexford General Hospital.
