Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

447 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the serious difficulty experienced by many children attending special schools, special classes and day care centres in rural Ireland due to lack of adequate transport; if this issue will be fully investigated by the School Transport Review Committee with other responsible public bodies, such as health boards; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15197/96]

At present, approximately 8,500 children with disabilities are carried daily on a national network involving 450 vehicles. In addition, other pupils with disabilities are integrated on ordinary school transport services. The issue to which the Deputy refers is being considered by the School Transport Review Committee and will be dealt with in their report.
