Treacy asked the Minister for Justice if she will sanction a project (details supplied) in County Galway; if she will give details of the project; the date on which sanction will be given; the cost of the project; the date on which construction will begin; and if she will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy will be aware a major refurbishment scheme to incorporate the married quarters into the Garda station is proposed for this centre. However, in view of the nature of the works to be carried out it has been decided to progress the project on a phased basis. Phase I will involve the completion of all works to the married quarters. Upon completion of same, the station party will be moved into the married quarters and works to the station itself will comence under Phase II.
The Office of Public Works has been asked to prepare a revised sketch scheme for the proposed works along with costings for Phase I and II. Subject to the availability of finance and overall priorities, it is expected that works will commence during 1997.
