Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Severance Arrangements.

Mary Harney

Question:

940 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will give details of any financial settlements or extraordinary severance arrangements entered into with civil servants in his Department or with public servants in State agencies under the aegis of his Department. [15871/96]

Details of the settlement between Bord na Móna and Dr. Edward O'Connor, former managing director, were provided in the statement made by the Minister to the Oireachtas Joint Committee on State-Sponsored Bodies on 18 July 1996 and in reply to a written parliamentary question tabled by Deputy Molloy for answer on 25 July 1996.

Since my appointment, there have been no other financial settlements or extraordinary severance arrangements entered into with civil servants in my Department and I am not aware of any financial settlements or extraordinary arrangements in relation to chief executives, in State agencies under the aegis of my Department. In respect of public servants in these State bodies below the level of chief executive, any such arrangements are a matter for the board of the company itself and would not normally be brought to my attention.
