Vol. 469 No. 3

Written Answers. - Donegal Sewerage Schemes.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

90 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for the Environment the proposals, if any, he has to provide a sewerage scheme at Cloghore and Laghey, County Donegal; if INTERREG funding will be made available in respect of these projects; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17317/96]

An application for the Donegal Bay wastewater management scheme has been submitted to the European Commission for Cohesion Fund assistance. Stage I of the application, which has yet to be approved by the Commission, includes a comprehensive monitoring programme. Stage II would allow for the planning and construction of the Laghey and Cloghore schemes if proven necessary following monitoring. Pending the Commission's decision regarding stage I, and having regard to the existing level of commitments under the water and sewerage programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to advance these schemes.

All funds under the INTERREG 2 Programme for 1994-99 have been committed at this stage.
