Question:

10 Mr. Callely asked the Taoiseach the number of persons employed by him on a full-time, part-time and contract basis for the duration of the Irish Presidency of the EU; the total costs involved in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17213/96]

One non-civil servant has been engaged on a part-time contract basis for the duration of the Presidency at a maximum cost of £15,000.

Two civil servants are on secondment to my Department from the Department of Social Welfare to assist with press and media matters during the Presidency. Their salaries are being paid by my Department for the six months at a cost of £23,397.
There are seven permanent staff in the European Affairs Division of my Department. A further post has been created in this division for the duration of the Presidency at an additional cost of £13,255. This post has been filled, on an allowance basis, by a civil servant in my Department who has, in turn, been replaced by the recruitment of an administrative officer.
