I am not aware of difficulties being experienced by farmers in complying with the Animal Remedies Regulations, 1996 which, as the Deputy will be aware, update the law in this area. The requirement to keep records in relation to the administration of certain animal remedies is an extension of a requirement that has existed since 1985. There are no plans to issue preprinted registers; while the form of record to be kept is laid down in the regulations, farmers may use any suitable book. I understand that one farm body is preparing a standard format for use by its members. An advertisment advising farmers of the records to be maintained was published in the farming press in August 1996. In addition, an information notice for farmers has been prepared and is available from my Department. By maintaining the records required, farmers will enhance the image of their product among consumers. This is to be welcomed and is to the obvious advantage of farmers themselves.
